When a peace treaty is drafted by the human Hunters, whose objective is to kill “unruly” Shades, Ophelia is offered to the king as his bride to bridge the two groups in a show of peace. There is a lot of miscommunications between the MCs though, but tbh it didn’t bother me as much as it usually does. It was refreshing having supportive, friendly, honest side characters to the MCs and their relationship. Years later the hunters approach her and ask her to marry the King of Shades so that a treaty can be signed between them.

There is a bit of danger and dissension, lots of spice and cuteness and sweetness, some humor that made me laugh out loud, and a really cool setting in the castle in the Shadow World. Superbia is the second book in the series and released on March 1, 2023, so now is the perfect time to start this series.Advertising Disclosure: Please note that many links to retailers are affiliate links, which yields a commission for us. I seriously can’t wait, and I’m sad that the vast majority of this author’s work has been reverse harems because that just really isn’t my cuppa. She even made the grave sin of committing some X-rated monster thoughts to paper-which in hindsight may not have been the best. A poor condition book can still make a good reading copy but is generally not collectible unless the item is very scarce. I’m also ridiculously excited to meet Colette Rhodes next month and pick up signed copies of Luxuria and Superbia (and maybe some bookish swag)!

It was easy to read, our monsters here are your typical kind though distrustful type of fantastical race. An arranged marriage between a human and a monster, with some smell kink and lots of miscommunication. There is some miscommunication but I felt it was justified and made the characters relationship become stronger. My only real issue with her was that, I feel like she gained the respect the Shades way too easily, without really working toward it or deserving it. I would have liked some more description of the Shade world and their customs because I was left with some questions about a lot of things but I did like that the story focused primarily on Allerick and Ophelia's blossoming romance. The history of the shadow realm was featured enough to be interesting without taking away from the developing relationship between Ophelia and Allerick. She even made the grave sin of committing some X-rated monster thoughts to paper—which in hindsight may not have been the best idea because her parents were mortified —but you live and learn. The plot IS their relationship, with some focus on the politics and the conflict between Hunters and Shades.
