Now a movie starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell, USA Today bestselling author Sally Thorne’s hilarious and sexy workplace comedy all about that thin, fine line between hate and love. She is desperate to be liked and as much as she outwardly carries her “people-pleasing” persona inwardly (and to Joshua) she is snarky and a tad mean.

I have a weird self-deprecating sense of humor that not many people in my real life seem to get, but the hate/love balance in this book produced some nice sarcasm right on my level.Yet when Josh would try and be nice to her, ugh, my heart hurt because I was begging for her not to freak out. Although I finished this book just before my holiday, I would thoroughly recommend this book as a holiday read.

Honestly, that's one of my biggest issues when reading: unnecessary fillers or there not being enough time for feelings to really develop. The hero does not submit to whatever ails the heroine, the hero is not phased by dealing with her bodily fluid and nor does he ever succumb to feeling nauseous due to being in the presence of spew. But too many of the books I’ve read by other authors since have veered closer and closer to it… and then we come to The Hating Game by Sally Thorne. I’m a huge fan of enemies to lovers, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise that I loved this book, but it felt so much more then this is a favorite book. Though there’s really no diversity or anything brushing on current social issues involved in this story (and again, nothing challenging with body image), there is one small element that I found pretty refreshing: Josh is the shy/insecure party in this couple. Perhaps neither really hates the other as much as Lucy expected — or is Joshua playing the long game in winning the competition between them?

I love a book that leaves me with a huge smile on my face and being sad to reach the end of the story. We all make inferences about other people from the evidence we’re given, but so much of this story rests on the reader believing Lucy about the other characters’ personalities and motives when in actuality her guess is as good as anyone’s. My hard copy is filled with bookmarks and post it notes and is beginning to wear along the spine, the pages are now appearing dog eared and over-read (which is slightly disastrous for those of us who like our books to remain in good condition) and so the decision was made that a kindle copy had to be purchased - which is even better news for me because, hello? I absolutely love hate-to-love trope, it makes the banter between characters fun and entertaining and here it was the best.We learn that Lucy used to work in the Gamin publishing house but both the companies had to merge due to the recent climate in publishing. I devoured the book within one evening the first time I read it, staying up until 4am to finish it - I completely and utterly fell in love with Joshua the more I learned about him.
