Over 1500 trees of Britain and Northern Europe described, with pictures of the whole tree, flowers, leaves and twigs. Although not as comprehensive as the other Collins tree guide, it's a handier size and I find it easier to ID from photographs than from drawings, so the two books go well together.

The introduction contains illustrations which also provide the starting point for identification by leading you to a ‘key’ species. I maintain a blog that charts the weekly progress of the small woodland and ecological park next to my home. It might not be the most informative, in-depth or well-organised tree identification guide out there, but I find it pretty good.

The build is excellent, the pages are glossy, the photography is top quality and it simply yells professionalism.

On pages 64-65 there is a "Places to Visit" list, with web addresses, listing natural woodlands and arboreta that the enthusiast might like to visit.
