This is probably one of the most realistic portrayal of a confused young adult in terms of choosing their university and the stress and pressure that comes with it. When he got in, he said something along the line of “ I finally got to see the Mainland” and it just… hits. My favorite genre to read is contemporary realistic fiction, and I'll never say no to a graphic novel. She was so cute and rough and tough in the beginning, but like a cookie in the microwave, she warmed up to him.

This is a sharply funny and insightful novel about the countless hustles we have to keep from doing the hardest thing: being ourselves. Who doesn’t However, referring to his work and ambitions as a hustle does seem odd and ingenuine in a way. The ending is probably one of my favorite ending from all the YA Contemporary Romance I've read this year.Whether Henri sharing his sarcastic quips, his best friend, Ming, joking along with him, or the banter between them and Corinne, there’s a lot that kept me laughing along with these characters. It has two of my favorite elements: senior year setting and laid back/uptight couple dynamics so it does sounds like it’s going to be a new favorite of mine.

It's pretty clear here who is the sun and who is the hapless, rotating planet with vague signs of intelligent life. I have all this praise for this book, but the only reason this isn't a 5-star for me is the main conflict. Henri Haltiwanger, high school senior with a trademark Smile, is navigating the end of high school amidst classes, debate team, his dog-walking side business, and applying to college with his hopes and dreams resting on admission to Columbia. I especially enjoyed the way Henri's ambition was described as well and contrasted to Corrinne and her mother. He’s first-generation American, the son of hard-working Haitian immigrants; he’s a good student at the prestigious FATE Academy, where he’s well-liked; and he runs a dog-walking business for upscale New Yorkers.

He's a scholarship student at the illustrious and exclusive FATE Academy, he's on the debate team, he attends every party, and he's making money on the side as a dog walker during all hours of the day. Henri agrees and finds himself growing to like Corrine but he can't help but think about how her mother may be the key to his acceptance to the ivy league university of his dreams. He’s incredibly driven and committed to his future, as well as part of an ambitious immigrant family focused on truly making it. Even though Halti messes up with his desperate attempts to get into Columbia, Corinne actually helps him to go for his true passion.
