Note, it is pretty loud when placed on the floor due to the vibrations, but if that’s not a dealbreaker for you, we can’t recommend the Vyper3 enough. The handle vibrated a lot on the highest speed setting, causing our arm to ache after a while, but this can easily be remedied by turning the power down for a more soothing percussive therapy session. It may be a wallet-friendly option, but it doesn’t skimp on features – you get four interchangeable tips (a classic ball, bullet, fork and flat head), three intensity modes and a compact travel case for sweet, sweet relief en route home from the gym. Weighing just over 500 grams, the Carbon Go is considerably smaller than its predecessor, the MuscleGun Carbon, but it has everything you need in a massage gun.

If you need some guidance, there’s a handy user manual, which provides step-by-step routines for warm-up, mobility and recovery. This well-designed massage gun earned an instant thumbs up for its long, curved handle that helped our testers reach all their aching muscles. It wasn’t the most powerful massager on test – the first speed in particular was extremely gentle – so it’s not one for serious gym-goers, but it’s still great for releasing tension. In the box, you’ll also find an insightful user guide, packed with step-by-step routines showing you how to soothe all manner of aches and pains. We also considered the different attachments each gun came with, its overall design, noise levels during use, and cost. They rated the range of attachments for addressing all leg muscles, but their favourite was the ‘invor’ head, which is designed to stimulate the nerves in your feet – just what you need after a Sunday long run. This 5th gen model has really stepped things up a gear with the addition of an OLED screen, which shows four visually guided routines to really help you nail that ache.

The sleek, sturdy device has four interchangeable heads (a bullet, a fork, a flat head and a soft head) and five oomph-inducing speed settings for more targeted recovery. It glides over skin while delivering a powerful yet relaxing massage, and its lengthy, slightly curved handle helps you reach all muscles. If on-the-go-massages are on the agenda, there's a slick, lightweight carry case that will fit neatly into your gym bag or suitcase.

Ultra-Quiet Technology with Commercial-Grade Power - The build materials are great and it comes with a multi-grip design for better ergonomics and delivering awesome performance and it does so very quietly. To start with, I couldn’t stand it on its highest setting but now I love it and would go for it every time. It doesn’t have the innovative heat features of the Pro Physio Massage Gun, and lacks the oomph of its competitors, but if you’re an everyday athlete who doesn't need anything super-intense – think casual use rather than a recovery aid for an intense HIIT session – then it’s more than up to the job. Getting started was simple, and it didn’t take long until the fast-charing battery was ready to go (extra points for the USB-C charging port, which is universally the most useful in my humble opinion).
