Originally a newsletter series, the Moon Lists brings together strangers from across the globe each sharing a response to a series of personal questions and prompts. The new book combines seamless design by Natasha Mead and meaningful content designed to guide readers through the practice of making a ‘moon list’ and experiencing life in a new way.

I’ve kept some form of a journal for most of my life, but its format has evolved (the most current iteration of the digital Moon Lists is probably the closest to how it looks now, a combination of observations, lists, personal inventories). I wrote to Abell, requesting to see the other questions on his list…and for permission to recreate his idea through the perspectives of different contributors. More recently this has evolved into a workbook that more broadly explores rituals that can allow for a life experienced more deeply, using deceivingly simple prompts, list-making exercises, and sensorial inventories to invoke conversations, connection, and personal awareness.

Traditionally and across cultures the phases of the moon are regarded with different types of meaning, from new beginnings to intention setting to times of surrendering acceptance. The Moon Lists is a new way to journal: Filled with 18 months of exercises for breaking through creative, emotional, and transitional roadblocks, it introduces a routine practice of digging below the surface to explore parts of the mind + present tense that are new, unknown, and full of possibility.
