Description

In a few more years, DreamWorks Animation would create the colossal DreamWorks Dragons Franchise based off of and inspired by these Books. Poor little Hiccup--he doesn't exactly fit in to everyone's idea of the big and fearsome Viking, with his tiny frame and delicate, polite attitude. It is the story of Hiccup's first time out to sea where he goes to find out if vikings are ever frightened. This is a perfect picture book for all children aged between three and six who love Vikings and watching grown-ups come unstuck! Kids do see adults as wise people who are scared of nothing, and it's good for kids to look up to their parents, but it's also good to show them our weakness sometimes.

She was convinced that there were dragons living on this island, and has been fascinated by dragons ever since. Our parents are not always as wise as our grandparents, even if old people’s breath can stink of fish. Stoick and Hiccup greet Old Wrinkly on the shore and all realize that yes, Vikings sometimes get scared, but they deal with it, which is what Bravery is. But his biggest fear is having to go to sea, and with the inevitable first voyage fast approaching, Hiccup is very worried indeed.

This was actually the first book that started the phenomenal series of 12 books titled HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. I'd looked for this in the past, so the library must have gotten in over the last year or something.

The Vikings are lost in a terrible storm, and it's up to Hiccup to help them find their way home again. She has a BA in English Literature from Oxford University, a BA in Graphic Design from St Martin's and an MA in Narrative Illustration from Brighton. There is a nice author's note at the beginning where Cowell talks about her relationship with her own larger-than-life, fearless father and how he inspired her writing.Nada impresionante ni sobresaliente, pero era un libro que NECESITABA leer, como gran fanática que soy de las películas y los personajes de "Cómo entrenar a tu dragón". Hiccup, The Viking who was Seasick (also titled Hiccup the Seasick Viking in 2000) is a large book designed for small children. Simpatična pričica koja je svojevrsni prequel knjizi Kako izdresirati zmaja, u kojoj upoznajemo Štucavca dok je još bio mali Viking kojeg je bilo strah ploviti morem. Until, that is, Hiccup, despite his increasing seasickness, is forced to save the day when all the other Vikings turn out not to be quite as tough as they thought.

Also the author of picture books, Cressida has won the Nestle Children's Book Prize 2006 and has been shortlisted for many others. Cressida Cowell grew up in London and on a small, uninhabited island off the west coast of Scotland. Some may think that children's books are too small, simple, and menial to have an "Art," but that is just not true. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. This wonderfully witty fable will delight all those who have ever faced up to their worse fears and is destined to become a children's classic. Upon seeing that Vikings can get sick and scared, Hiccup starts to feel better and navigates the ship back home, past many marvelous creatures of the sea.

Many years later the author would develop the characters of Hiccup and Stoick further into her 12-Book series, geared toward middle-aged and young teen children. The art is very much the same as in Cressida's other works (obviously, since she is the illustrator as far as I'm aware), so it does feel like a part of the httyd series/universe. This is a lovely book; it is warm and witty, with instant appeal and the deft touch we have come to expect from Cressida Cowell. He never really seemed scared at all of the sea once he was out there, and because his fear was never really shown or explained, it felt hard to believe this fact about him or care that he overcame it to be a hero. In fact, he was a little timid and worried a lot--and what worried him the most was going to sea for the very first time. I suppose the trip is supposed to show how Hiccup overcomes his fear; that although scared, he steers the ship back to safety when others aren't able to.
