In my setup it is indispensable, I have talked before about how important temperature control is so if you find you need some help keeping your home brew at a good temperature range a fermenter heater such as a heat mat or a brew belt may be an inexpensive way to do it. Two different springs (1" or 4") connect the ends to hold onto your carboy, plastic fermenter, or even your conical!

This belt heater is the an essential piece of home brew equipment required to create a perfect beer, wine, cider or kombucha. Please do not throw away any broken goods until we have confirmed it is ok to do so as sometimes the couriers ask for the goods as part of their investigations. I'm currently using a sachet of Muntons Good and the sachet that came with the Muntons Midland Mild kit, but that has just about finished it's been in the fermenter 9 days and I'll bottle it on Monday or Tuesday. The superb design also allows it to fit around a pressure barrel to aid the start of the secondary fermentation. The only silly thing about it is the random drawer string with plastic toggle used to tighten the belt around the bucket, its unnecessarily fiddly, but doesn't inhibit the basic hating function of the product.

Perfect if you need to keep your brew in a spare room, garage of cellar where the temperature is less than ideal for brewing. Heat belts or Brew Belts are similarly energy efficient like heat pads but are designed to wrap around the fermenter and provide heat along the length of the belt. The concern is that the fermentation temperature will rise too much and this will put the yeast under stress which will generate undesirable flavours in the finished beer. This is a heating belt that goes round your bucket, keg demijohn or other fermenter to keep it warm so your yeast ferments at it's preferred temperature. If you're a home brewer making wine, beer or cider and you are looking for an easy way to maintain the brewing temperature of your fermentation, a heat belt heater is an excellent choice. The belt should not be left plugged in for more than 8 days in a row, and the must or wort temperature should be monitored daily.
