And let me tell you, I am in love with an actor, a dad, a boyfriend, an alcoholic, but above all else, I am in love with the man that loves his queen. With stars in his eyes, and her heart on her sleeve, the pair ran away together to follow their dreams. I didn't even get all that emotional, and I think it was because I was waiting for this connection to the characters or a connection to their connection to each other, but I wasn't feeling it.

She has no interest in the type of attention that Jonathan draws, especially where it may impact her young daughter, Madison. Regardless of her being a bit out of her league in the elitist school she attends where it’s not what you know, but whom you rub shoulders with, is sublimely executed. Endings are fucking impossible… especially endings that remind me of a girl I’m trying damn hard not to think about.

Some years later, the start of the present-day part of the book, we meet Kennedy, a woman making a living as a supermarket manager, and a single mother to a five-year-old little girl named Madeline, or Maddie for short. One thing that hurt me most in this book was that Kennedy choose Jonathan over her own dreams and he choose drugs, alcohol because he was tired of his life. The result was that there was an omnipresent sense of turmoil, leading to one hell of an emotional rollercoaster ride for the entirety of the book. he was going through some stuff and battling addiction is extremely hard so i won’t – and i can’t – judge him for that. In fact, one of my favorite things about this story was the way that the past story and present story were revealed in such a manner that they were always "opposing".

In fact, to say how this second chance standalone novel affected me is quite honestly, difficult to put into words.

The heroine went through so much pain and heartache over this guy and I didn’t feel like he did anything to deserve her or their child’s forgiveness. Her connection with her entire family as well as Jonathan’s alter ego, Breezeo, is so stinking sweet and funny. They have a daughter and Jonathan knows about her but Kennedy would not let him meet her until he become sober.
