Description

This was one of those books where I started reading it and didn’t want to put it down until I finished. It is an amalgamation of all of my favourite houses I’ve seen in my life – really, I was living vicariously through Posy! This book is filled with secrets and interesting twists that are hinted at and keep you wondering how and when they are going to be revealed.

The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley - Always With a Book Review: The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley - Always With a Book

The Butterfly Room is a big book, over 600 pages, however the mysteries are captivating and Riley feeds out snippets of information which had me guessing my own conclusions only to find I was wrong every time. For the moment, I am focusing completely on the Seven Sisters series and have just finished Book 6, ‘ The Sun Sister’, which is all about the youngest sister, Electra. The same attention is given to her characters, all jump off the page and are well rounded so they feel like people you know as the book progresses and you are invested in their lives. The next morning, I had found Daisy crying in the kitchen, but she wouldn’t say what was the matter. As you know, men generally tend to be much more basic than women; for the most part, less emotionally complex. These qualities are all in Posy, who has led a varied, and a times hard life, which is why I loved her tenacity and positivity towards life.

Lucinda’s The Seven Sisters series, which tells the story of adopted sisters and is inspired by the mythology of the famous star cluster, has become a global phenomenon.Riley evokes empathy for her characters but there is also plenty of anger, despair and heart-wrenching emotion, confirming that Riley can elicit a full spectrum of emotions from one book. In addition to reading, I also enjoy yoga and walking - I am a big audio fan and love listening to audio books while out walking! The Folly in particular is such an interesting aspect of British country estates, such a whimsical bit of architecture, the perfect fairy-tale tower for young Posy to be drawn to.

Riley's characters are magnificent; from Posy with her inherent wisdom and dignity, to her sons, both very different and both of whom are facing disasters in their private lives, their families, and finally Freddie, a great love from Posy's past - they will all worm their way into your heart and occupy your mind from the first to the last page.I had some theories about Posy’s family situation, but the final culmination of events and the shocking revelations that are made by the close of the novel took me aback. Then a face appears from the past - Freddie, her first love, who abandoned her and left her heartbroken fifty years ago. Her books have been translated into thirty-seven languages and sold twenty million copies worldwide. MY THOUGHTS: I loved this multi-generational family saga beginning in the 1940's when Posy is a child and culminating with Posy's 70th birthday. The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley Book Review: The Butterfly Room by Lucinda Riley

A multi generational tale that was sweet and romantic and while it wasn’t on the edge of your seat suspense or intrigue it was charming and readable but not one for my favorites shelf. Her books have been translated into over thirty languages and sold fifteen million copies worldwide.I picked it up and sped through the 624 pages which slipped by effortlessly as I became engrossed in the story of Posy and her family.
